I'm passionate about many things, books and music being two of those things. I was thinking about how to incorporate music into a book blog, and here we are. Songs that remind me of books. Let's get into it.
Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson is one of my favorite books. Our main character, Emily, has a best friend who suddenly disappears with only a list for Emily to complete. It's a great summer read that will make you feel all of the things, trust me.
The song I chose for this one is Carried Away by Passion Pit. Matson includes playlists in her book that the characters made. She even includes some Passion Pit. Their music is so fun and bubbly, exactly like this book. Both song and book make me happy just the same.
The second book I decided to use is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz. I am not joking, this book is an amazing story that gives you exactly what you want by the end. I don't even wanna try to summarize it because I'm afraid I'll ruin it. Ari and Dante become close friends quite fast, teaching other things and growing off one another.
The song I chose is This Time Tomorrow by The Kinks. I'm not sure why, but I can just imagine this song blasting from Ari's red pickup as he and Dante watch the stars. But maybe it's just me.
The next one is Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. There's a special place in my heart for this book. I think my favorite thing about it is that it doesn't focus on a straight person!!! A rare sight!!! And ***don't read past this if you don't wanna be spoiled*** an interracial gay couple?!!! My mind exploded.
I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite songs of all time. And we all know how much Simon loves Elliot Smith. So I thought Needle in the Hay would be a perfect fit. This is definitely something I can picture Simon listening to, probably while eating Oreos.
Winger by Andrew Smith is in my top ten contemporary books, and trust me I've read a lot. This story will throw you so many times I wanted to scream. And, I will admit, I did sometimes. It's the story of a young boy at boarding school...that's all I will say.
Another song that I'm not too positive why i chose. Forgive & Forget by The Kooks is just a great song in general, and for some reason it's what popped into my head. Some parts of the books I can see this fitting, but if you've read the book, you know why I'm iffy.
