Ready Player One tells the story of a not so far future where everyone is obsessed with a virtual utopia called the OASIS. Teenager Wade Watts has devoted his life to finding the creator's easter egg that's somewhere hidden in the OASIS. The first avatar to find the easter egg will win the creator's entire fortune.
I was going to attempt to make this review spoiler free, but...I just have so much love for this books I'm not even sure how I would do that. All I can say if you haven't read RPO yet, just do it, okay? Please, just do it. Just do yourself this favor and read it. Now leave if you don't wanna be spoiled.
The number of times I screamed while reading RPO is unknown. It's true that some parts were slow, but I was never bored. Huffington Post is blurbed on the back saying calling RPO "Delightful...The grown-up's Harry Potter." I have to agree.
In the beginning when we were introduced to Wade and the OASIS, I fell in l love with the story instantly. The way Cline described the stacks was super cool. The idea of trailers being stacked on top of each other is honestly very realistic. That was a tiny part of the book but I thought you should know I liked them, just for you guys.
Before I started the book I thought it would mainly take place in reality, not the OASIS. But I really did enjoy the OASIS. Honestly I would love for that to be our reality some day, and it probably will be.
Of course, I wasn't surprised when Wade was the first one to find the first clue. But I was surprised when Art3mis was there. I didn't exactly fall in love with her character, it was a slow process. She wasn't my favorite, but I didn't hate her. I loved Aech. Loved. And when it turned out Aech was a girl, another woah moment.
I'm not gonna lie, a lot of the 80s references went right over my head. But it made me wanna listen to the music and watch the movies and play the video games. As soon as I finished the book, I went to Netflix and watched WarGames. I
I'm bad at reviews if you can't tell. So I'm going to sum it up. This probably didn't spoil anything for you rebels who kept reading. Lucky for you guys. So I'm just gonna sum it up. Ready Player One is an enchanting story that'll rope you in and keep you there. It's full of fun 80's pop culture references. It's a nerdy story for the nerds and closet nerds alike. When I finished RPO, I wanted to pick it back up right away.
